Gypsum job roles involve installing, finishing, and repairing drywall (gypsum board) for walls and ceilings, requiring skills in measuring, cutting, and securing boards to studs. Key responsibilities include preparing surfaces, applying tape and joint compound, sanding to a smooth finish, and maintaining a clean and safe work area. Other duties can include coordinating with other trades and reading blueprints.

Installation and finishing

Measure, cut, and install: Precisely measure, cut, and mount gypsum boards to fit walls, ceilings, and partitions.
Secure boards: Fasten the boards to metal or wooden frames using screws or nails.
Apply tape and compound: Apply joint tape and compound over seams, corners, and screw heads to create a seamless surface.
Sand surfaces: Sand down the surfaces to achieve a smooth and flawless finish, ready for painting or other decoration.

Repair and maintenance

Repair damaged areas: Repair or patch damaged drywall, ensuring a seamless appearance.
Inspect and adjust: Inspect completed work for quality and make necessary adjustments.

Site and coordination

Prepare surfaces: Clean and prepare surfaces before installation to ensure a proper bond.
Maintain a clean site: Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe for the crew and other trades.
Coordinate with other trades: Work with other construction professionals, such as painters, carpenters, electricians, and plumbers, to ensure smooth project completion.

Other responsibilities

Read blueprints: Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand the project's scope.
Handle materials: Safely handle, load, and unload materials and equipment.
Adhere to safety: Follow all safety regulations and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
