Line leader responsibilities

Line leaders have numerous responsibilities for ensuring the smooth running of a manufacturing department or a production facility. Duties may vary according to the level of seniority of the line leader and the exact nature and working environment of the facility. Some of the key duties of line leaders tend to include the following:

• Managing a team of production line employees:  One of the primary duties of a line leader is to supervise and provide line management for a team of production line manufacturing employees. • Overseeing the production process to meet orders and deadlines:  Line leaders manage the production line and oversee the production process from start to finish. They're responsible for ensuring that production teams meet their deadlines and fulfil all the necessary orders on time.
• Optimising the efficiency of the production process:  Line leaders have responsibility for improving the productivity and efficiency of production lines. Creating efficient processes and minimising waste can help the company to fulfil more orders and become more profitable.
• Training and supervising new production line employees:  The role involves training new production line employees, so they're fully equipped to work in a manufacturing environment. This can include health and safety briefings and training to operate specialist equipment and machinery.
• Monitoring the quality of the goods produced:  Line leaders are typically responsible for the quality of the goods the production facility manufactures. This means inspecting items and ensuring the production line employees follow established quality control procedures at all times in their work.
• Ensuring the facility meets health and safety requirements:  Line leaders tend to have extensive knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures and employers may require them to hold certifications and qualifications in health and safety.
• Keeping records and recording data on inventory management, order tracking and the supply of materials:  Part of the job of line leader includes keeping records and collecting data throughout the production process. This helps the line leader to keep track of inventories and stock levels, and track orders through to fulfilment and shipping.
• Collaborating with other departments on logistics and other aspects of the business:  The line leader oversees the production line and ensures their team produces enough products to fulfil orders. Alongside this, the role includes collaborating with other departments such as shipping and finance teams, to ensure the smooth running of the business operation overall.
