A Structural Design Engineer creates, analyzes, and ensures the safety of building frameworks, bridges, and infrastructure. They use specialized software to calculate load, stress, and material requirements, producing detailed, compliant, and cost-effective design plans. They work with architects and contractors, often conducting site inspections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Analysis: Develop structural plans, models, and specifications using software like AutoCAD, SAP2000, or ETABS.
  • Calculation: Determine load-bearing capacity, including vertical (weight) and lateral (wind/seismic) forces.
  • Material Selection: Choose appropriate materials (steel, concrete, wood) based on project needs.
  • Compliance: Ensure all designs meet, local, state, and national building codes and regulations.
  • Collaboration & Oversight: Coordinate with architects and MEP engineers, and supervise construction on-site to ensure compliance with design drawings.
  • Reporting: Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and documentation for permits.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in CAD and structural analysis software (e.g., Revit, RISA, ETABS).
  • Experience: Proven experience in design for commercial, residential, or industrial projects.
  • Skills: Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and communication skills.
