A Fire Alarm Technician installs, maintains, tests, and repairs fire detection and alarm systems in buildings, ensuring compliance with safety codes (like NFPA) and proper function to protect lives and property. Key duties involve wiring control panels, sensors, and sirens; troubleshooting malfunctions; conducting inspections and preventative maintenance (battery checks, cleaning); and training occupants on system use, requiring strong electrical knowledge, technical skill, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities:

Installation & Configuration:
Setting up new systems, control panels, detectors, and wiring according to blueprints and codes.

Maintenance & Testing:
Performing routine checks, cleaning components, replacing batteries, and testing system functionality.

Troubleshooting & Repair:
Diagnosing issues, fixing malfunctions, and replacing faulty parts promptly.

Code Compliance
:
Ensuring all work meets local, state, and national fire safety standards (e.g., NFPA).

Customer Interaction
:
Explaining system operations, training users, and providing support.

Reporting:
Documenting all installations, maintenance, and repair activities.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- High School Diploma (Associate's in electronics often preferred).
- Knowledge of electrical systems, fire codes, and alarm technology.
- Strong troubleshooting, technical, and manual dexterity skills.
- Good communication and customer service abilities.

Physical ability for climbing, lifting, and working in various environments.
Work Environment:
- Travel to diverse sites (residential, commercial, industrial).
- May involve on-call duties, overtime, and night work for critical systems.
